Depression and thoughts

In this section, we look at what people think. One of the most common phrases is "If only…"

"If only she had not left me", "If only we hadn't moved here", "If only I was not so tired"

As with anxiety, depression is all about feeling overwhelmed by the world. You feel vulnerable. You feel trapped. You withdraw from life as a way to protect yourself. You may feel sad and tearful. You may just feel numb. You may feel that you can't get in touch with normal feelings. You may feel cut-off from the rest of the world. You may feel cut off from your real self.

All of us get down in the mouth from time to time. All of us feel sad and feel we don't have enough get up and go. That is normal. The problem with depression is when it is there more days than not or even every single day for a long time. It is a problem when you can't shift it no matter how hard you try.

As with anxiety, the way you think when you are depressed is not just a result of depression but a major reason for it staying alive. This website will help you learn ways to think your way out of it.
